The Brave Little Poster
It's very dismal here today, just another rainy day in the South. I was sitting in Seminary this morning and I heard some thunder roll and then the rain commenced. At first, it wasn't so bad, but as I was driving home it turned from a standard rain to a bit heavier and by the time I get to school I'm running through a torrential downpour into class. Needless to say, I am regretting wearing my cloth Keds today, they were soaked, and my new haircut went completely unnoticed because of the lack of styling. Oh well, better luck tomorrow I guess.
So yesterday was odd, but overall I'm pleased with the series of events.
How great is the new change to BYU's honor code? It doesn't pertain to me because I'm not gay, but I feel it was a step in the right direction. Under the old honor code students could not be openly gay and attend BYU, but now students who struggle with same-sex attraction can be open about it without fear of expulsion. Here's the important part of the new honor code:
"Brigham Young University will respond to homosexual behavior rather than to feelings or orientation and welcomes as full members of the university community all whose behavior meets university standards. . . . One's stated sexual orientation is not an Honor Code issue. However, the Honor Code requires all members of the university community to manifest a strict commitment to the law of chastity."
So hooray for that...
